From the Airport in David it goes to the nearby mountains of Chiriquí up to the small mountain village of Boquete which is located at 1200 m with a cool mild climate

Situated in Panama’s highlands, Boquete is nestled into the lush mountains less than 40 miles from the border the country shares with Costa Rica.  Located in the Chiriquí Province, the town (actually a group of six smaller districts) sits on the Caldera River approximately a half hour drive from the capital city of David and 340 miles from Panama City.  Its elevation of almost 4,000 feet above sea level helps to alleviate the sweltering humidity experienced by some of its coastal neighbors.

Day 05: Boquete - Almirante - Bocas del Toro

After breakfast a 3 hour drive through the mountains of Cordillera de Talamanca and then along the Caribbean coast and through ever changing vegetation to Almirante. (Transfer without tour guide).

After arriving in Almirante you board a boat that will take you about 30 minutes to Isla Colon. In the town you will find cozy bars, restaurants, souvenir stands and shops. It has a relaxed, typical Caribbean atmosphere.

The archipelago of Bocas del Toro, surrounded by the Talamanca range, is an expanse of turquoise Caribbean waters dotted with lushly forested islands, mangrove Cayes, and flats of coral and turtle grass. The windward islands are blessed with pristine coconut-lined white sand beaches, several of which are protected by Bastimentos National Marine Park. Four species of sea turtles nest on these shores and inhabit the reefs laden with tropical fish. Sand dollars, seashells and driftwood are easily admired on these uninhabited beaches. It is not uncommon to find yourself exploring the whole day without ever encountering other footsteps. Relax in the seclusion of crescent shaped beaches surrounded by rock cliffs, snorkel the barrier and patch reefs of uninhabited white sand islands covered in coconut palms, or slip into the lush rainforest of Bastimentos to explore the flora and fauna. There are several family-friendly beaches in the area for those bringing young children. These areas are safe year round, geographically protected from open ocean swell and prevailing winds, there is little to no wave action and minimal currents. The local people of the province are made up of mainly indigenous tribes and descendants of slaves from Jamaica, which contributes to Bocas' diverse and vibrant culture.

Afterwards we head to Coral Cay where you have the possibility to try different delicious seafood in a little restaurant (not included). The area is also very suitable for swimming and snorkeling.

Later the boat trip continues to Isla Bastimentos. The island is surrounded by mangroves, nature and fresh air. Isla Bastimentos consists mainly of jungle. There are no roads or runways. For this reason the island can only be reached by boat.

It is the perfect place for adventure- and nature lovers. Here you also find one of Bocas del Toros most famous beaches "Red Frog Beach", called after the red arrow-poison frog. On the island are many paths through the jungle that invite you to explore the area. After all don’t forget about the most famous activity on the beautiful island "let the soul simply dangle" and listen to the sounds of the ocean.

Day 07: Shared boat & bus Transfer from Bocas del Toro to Puerto Viejo de Limón in Costa Rica

Located in Limon province on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a beach lover’s paradise. Formerly a quiet little fishing village, Puerto Viejo has a charm that is all its own. With its relaxed atmosphere and its own unique blend of Latino, Afro-Caribbean and Bribri indigenous cultures, Puerto Viejo is a lively place to have a fun relaxing vacation. With its gold sand beaches, tropical vegetation and many interesting attractions nearby such as the Cahuita National Park, Talamanca Indian Reserve and Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, visiting Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a great opportunity to experience Costa Rica at its best. Day 08: Early in the morning pick up the car rental. Self drive to Sarapiquí

Sarapiqui is not a popular tourist destination yet, but boasts an amazing amount of biodiversity and should be on every nature lover’s list. A great place to enjoy Costa Rica’s amazing natural beauty, Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui is perfect for those who enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, horseback riding, bird watching, white water rafting, or kayaking. A great way to spend a day here would be to take an optional rafting trip down the Sarapiqui River, one of the most important trade routes between this region and the Caribbean coast.  What’s unique about the Sarapiqui region is that it sits relatively low in elevation and has several large rivers which converge in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, the largest town in the area. Around these rivers is a mixture of farmland and protected tropical forest. It’s in these vast swaths of humid jungle that a lot of environmental research takes place. We recommend to visit Tirimbina, ( not included ) a biological reserve, research center. Enjoy an easy-to-access network of trails, as well as a massive hanging bridge. The bridge is impressive, stretching about 200 meters (650 feet) over the raging Sarapiqui River, and has a spiral staircase halfway across that leads down to a small jungle-covered island.

Day 12: Self-drive to Arenal/Fortuna

Arenal Volcano, located in La Fortuna, is the most iconic volcano in Costa Rica. For most of modern history, Volcán Arenal was just another dormant volcano surrounded by fertile farmland. But for about 42 years, the volcano was an ever-active and awe-striking natural wonder, producing menacing ash columns, massive explosions and streams of glowing molten rock almost daily. The fiery views are gone for now, but Arenal is still a worthy destination, thanks to the dense forest covering her lower slopes and foothills, and her picture-perfect conical shape up top. This area is rugged and varied, rich with wildlife and laced with trails.

Things to do:

Soak in a volcano-heated hot spring: Grand Spa at Tabacón. Grab a robe and settle into the jungle Jacuzzi while spa valets serve you healthy smoothies. Treatments like the chocolate body wrap and the couples’ two-hour massage utilize locally made products and end with champagne and fresh fruit. For a full day of pampering, request the spa package, which includes access to the thermal baths, and lunch or dinner.
Hike to a waterfall: The reward for a tough hike down to Catarata de la Fortuna is a magnificent waterfall, plummeting nearly 250 feet into a freshwater pool.
Watch wildlife: Birds, monkeys, turtles, caiman, and sloths abound in the 25,000-acre Caño Negro National Wildlife Refuge.

Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges: A series of trails and bridges form a loop through the primary rain forest of a 250-acre private reserve, providing great bird-watching and volcano viewing. Sixteen fixed and hanging bridges allow you to see the forest at different levels. Trails are open rain or shine, and there are things to do in both types of weather, including horseback-riding tours that start at 9 am and 1 pm.

Day 13: Hike in Private Trail Colada 1968 pm & Tabacon + Dinner

The tour starts at 2:30pm. Your guide will pick you up at your hotel, and you will arrive at about 3:00pm to the Private Reservation El Silencio. The vehicle will get as close as possible to the base of the volcano. Once on site, you will embark upon a walk of approximately 1 kilometer following a path of volcanic stone which has a moderate degree of difficulty, until arriving at the viewpoint, the point closest to the volcano allowed. At the vantage point, the guide will provide you with relevant information about the Arenal Volcano formation, its activity periods, as well as unpublished details of its first eruption in 1968, and you will enjoy the excellent views of the Green Lagoon and Arenal Lake. As soon as the guide indicates, you will begin the descent along the same path of 1km until you reach the starting point again.

In the next stage of the expedition, you will change scenery and enter the forest of regeneration and little by little the primary forest in the foothills of the Arenal Volcano. In this trail of approximately 1.5 km, (if you are lucky) you will have the opportunity to find a great variety of plants and animals that inhabit these forests like the toucan, the pava, the oropendola, saínos, snakes and monkeys.

After your hike you will go to the Tabacón Hot Springs and enjoy a delicious dinner. The purity of the water will make you feel like you are floating in an oasis of healing, with birds singing all around and the sound of falling water that invites you to relax and recover your wellness and quality of life.
