Day 02 Shuttle Transfer to Arenal/Fortuna.

The Arenal Volcano, located in La Fortuna is the most iconic volcano in Costa Rica. It is a perfectly cone shaped volcano that was the most active volcano up until 2010. Since July 29, 1968 when Arenal Volcano first erupted and destroyed the town of Tabacón, visitors came to witness the earth rumble and the lava flow from afar. Tourism and attractions in the area flourished. One of the most popular reasons to visit Arenal Volcano (besides all of the adventure activities in the area) are the wonderful volcano heated hot springs that come from the geothermal activity beneath Arenal.

Day 03 Combo Tour 4 in 1: Hanging Bridges, Waterfall, Lunch and Volcano

For the people who come to La Fortuna with limited time or those who simply want to maximize their time in the area in mind, we have designed this alternative to show you the main attractions located around the volcano.

There is no doubt that our forests are one of the highlights, therefore we will first visit the Arenal Hanging Bridges to walk through the forest along trails and bridges that allow you to see plants and animals from high above. At around 11:30 we will arrive at the second place of interest, the La Fortuna Waterfall, famous for its height of 60 meters (197 feet). There you can take a refreshing swim in its cool waters or take pictures of its beauty.

Next, at 1:30pm, it is lunchtime. We will stop at a nice restaurant near at the town of La Fortuna. At around 3:00 pm, we will head towards the Arenal Volcano National Park to hike on the trail called Lava slides to the closest possible safe point. From there, if the skies are clear, the views of the Arenal Lake, the secondary forest, and the areas devastated by previous eruptions will be impressive.

Basic Tropical forests, colorful wildlife and spectacular beaches are part of daily life in Costa Rica. The climate varies depending on where you are, so pack accordingly.

  1. Prepare for hot, humid summers. Shorts, T-shirts, sundresses, skirts and tank tops in lightweight fabrics should keep you cool. Take a sweater for evenings at a higher elevation.
  2. Bring plenty of sunblock. Also include insect repellent, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and a swimsuit.
  3. Take rubber-soled sandals or hiking boots for journeys into the rain forests. Flip-flops and sandals are great for resorts and hanging out by the beach.
  4. Pack separate clothes for evenings. Simple dresses are great for women, while men will do well in long shorts and a button-down shirt.
  5. Prepare for cool winters, particularly in the northern regions and at higher elevations. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts are a must, while a fleece jacket or a sweater is advisable.
  6. Take an umbrella if you plan to travel between May and November – Costa Rica’s wettest period.
  7. A rain slicker will come in handy while hiking.
  8. Take an electric converter and adapter.
