Day 01: Arrival at San José, Costa Rica. Private transfer to your hotel.

Welcome to Costa Rica! Once you have passed immigration and customs and exited the airport doors, you will meet one of our travel representatives with a sign reading your name. He will drive you to your hotel in San Jose and give you your welcome kit.

Day 02: Bus & boat transfer to Tortuguero.

Facing the Caribbean Sea and the Tortuguero River is one of Costa Rica’s main treasures. Its name, Tortuguero, meaning “place of turtles” is renowned for its yearly arrival of 4 different turtle species that nest on its beaches. To get to your destination hotel we will provide a bus transfer from San Jose to one of the important ports of the canals.  Once at the jungle canals you may board a small motor boat that will traverse the canals in the rainforest to your chosen hotel. The approximate time of travel from San Jose to your hotel will be 5 hours, including the land and boat transfers.

Day 03: Programmed activities in Tortuguero.

Through an infinite network of river canals and mangroves you will experience a truly unique contact with nature.  Although remote, there is rich, stunning, unspoiled nature as well as fauna. Hiking and boat trips are included. On turtle nesting season (July to October), there is an optional tour at night available upon request at the hotel (Not included).

Day 04: Boat & bus transfer to Guapiles. Shuttle transfer or Sel drive to Puerto Viejo.

Where lush thick jungles meet the Caribbean seas, soft caramel colored sands caress your body and the multicultural vibes of Jamaican and Europeans alike make Puerto Viejo the go to destination for a laid back vacation.  Puerto Viejo is not for everyone as it is still considered off the beaten track.  However, this unique Caribbean town is authentic without golf courses, marinas, country clubs, swimming pools or air conditioned rooms common on the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica. This Caribbean region instead offers the exotic Cahuita National Park, Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife refuge, hidden beaches, rugged nightlife and delightful restaurants.

Day 05: Day off in Puerto Viejo.

From renting a local banana bike to cycling from one beach to another through sandy trails to activities such as SUP (stand up paddle boarding), surfing, a visit to the sloth sanctuary or the jaguar rescue center are all but a few of the exciting adventures you may experience in Puerto Viejo.

Day 06: Shuttle Transfer or Sel drive to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí.

A prime site for scientific investigation, Sarapiquí is one of the most visited districts in the region. It consists of lush lowland areas, rich in biodiversity and one of the last strongholds for endangered species such as the great green macaw. Sarapiquí is a well-known for its mountains, plains, volcanoes, lakes, rivers, forests, fruit farms and cattle ranches. It is also greatly visited by birders to view several Trogon species.

Day 07: Shuttle Transfer of Sel drive to the Arenal Volcano.

Arenal Volcano located in La Fortuna, is the most iconic volcano in Costa Rica. Its perfectly coned shaped volcano was the most active volcano up until 2010. Since July 29, 1968 when Arenal Volcano first erupted, caused massive damage and destroyed the town of Tabacon, visitors came to witness the earth rumble and the lava flow from afar. Tourism and attractions in the area flourished. One of the most popular reasons to visit Arenal Volcano (besides all of the adventure activities in the area) are the wonderful volcano heated hot springs that come from the geothermal activity beneath Arenal.

Day 08: Day off at the Arenal Volcano.

This day enjoy your day relaxing at your hotel and surroundings or choose one of many activities that are offered in the area.  Optional tours are: Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge tour, tour of the Arenal Volcano and Tabacón Resort hot springs, sport fishing on Lake Arenal, Guided hike of the Arenal Volcano, Mountain Biking, Venado Caves Tour, horseback riding, safari float.

Day 09: Shuttle Transfer or Sel drive to Rincón de la Vieja.

In the Northern region of Guanacaste, just a few miles off the Pan American highway you will find Rincon de la Vieja National Park. Here, great adventures are to be discovered among the different rivers, waterfalls, natural pools, thermal waters, volcanic mud baths and tropical dry forests. This area has an abundance of birds, mammals, reptiles, insects and more. The National Park is a very unique destination and not usually found in a travel guide!

Important Note: The National Park Rincón de la Vieja is closed on Mondays!

Day 10: Day off at Rincón de la Vieja.

Enjoy your day relaxing at your hotel and surroundings or ask your travel consultant about the many optional activities that are offered in the area.

Day 11: Shuttle Transfer or Self drive to Tamarindo Beach.

Tamarindo, with its glorious beaches, offers outstanding surfing opportunities for beginners, intermediate and experienced surfers. Watch the majestic leatherback turtles come upon shore to nest at Playa Grande or enjoy an early bird watching tour. Take a kayak snorkeling tour, horseback ride along beautiful beaches, or zip through the canopy of the tropical dry forest on a canopy tour.

Day 12: Free day on the beaches of Tamarindo and surroundings.

Day 13: Shuttle Transfer or Self drive to Monteverde.

Monteverde is a small town nestled between two primary cloud forest reserves.  It was founded by Quaker families in the 1950’s who left the USA and its war behind. Monteverde is a birder’s and orchid lover’s paradise.  91 species of migratory birds are known to stop in Monteverde and it is also the site with the largest number of orchids in the world with 34 of 500 species newly discovered.  The famed Quetzal resides in the cloud forests of Monteverde.

Day 14: Day off in Monteverde.

Discover the jungle trails above the tree canopies through an optional hanging bridges tour.  A bilingual naturalist guide will point out various species of birds, animals and plants along the way.  The hanging bridges are located in a 250 hectare reserve of primary forest.  The trails are a 3km loop among 16 state of the art bridges of which 10 are static and the other 6 are hanging.  The length of the bridges range between 22 – 98 meters long.

Day 15: Shuttle Transfer or Self drive to Manuel Antonio.

The beaches of Manuel Antonio are one of the nicest and closest beach destinations from San Jose!  Here the majority of hotels, restaurants, night life and center of town are located on the hill top overlooking the Pacific Ocean and spectacular sunsets.  Manuel Antonio is a perfect destination for everyone. The destination offers numerous adventure activities such as nature hikes, snorkeling, wildlife watching (exceptional to view various species of monkeys, birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians). The town of Manuel Antonio also offers great restaurants and night life.

Day 16: Day off in Manuel Antonio.

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest draws of Manuel Antonio is its national park. Internationally recognized as one of the planet’s most biologically diverse parks, the Manuel Antonio National Park is virtually teeming with wildlife. A trip here offers visitors the chance to spot several types of monkeys, birds, lizards and insects.  In addition to its wildlife viewing, the park has two gorgeous white-sand beaches – some of the country’s best places to relax beside the sea.

Day 17: Shuttle Transfer or Self drive to San José.

Just a few minutes from the airport you will find the bustling capital San José, where you will encounter the warmth and friendliness of the Costa Ricans. Spend a day relaxing at your hotel or take a historic tour around the city visiting our museums or the National Theater. There are also plenty of opportunities in the surrounding areas like coffee tours, volcano hikes and adventure trips.

The most important things to bring are your travel documents: a valid passport, flight and hotel information, health insurance card and driver’s license (if you plan on renting a car in Costa Rica). Basic Tropical forests, colorful wildlife and spectacular beaches are part of daily life in Costa Rica. The climate varies depending on where you are, so pack accordingly.


  1. Prepare for hot, humid summers. Shorts, T-shirts, sundresses, skirts and tank tops in lightweight fabrics should keep you cool. Take a sweater for evenings at a higher elevation.
  2. Bring plenty of sunblock. Also include insect repellent, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and a swimsuit.
  3. Take rubber-soled sandals or hiking boots for journeys into the rain forests. Flip-flops and sandals are great for resorts and hanging out by the beach.
  4. Pack separate clothes for evenings. Simple dresses are great for women, while men will do well in long shorts and a button-down shirt.
  5. Prepare for cool winters, particularly in the northern regions and at higher elevations. Long pants and long-sleeved shirts are a must, while a fleece jacket or a sweater is advisable.
  6. Take an umbrella if you plan to travel between May and November – Costa Rica’s wettest period.
  7. A rain slicker will come in handy while hiking.
  8. Take an electric converter and adapter.
